So my trip continues and I am having a lot of fun. It has been non stop.
Yesterday we all travelled to Tunja, the Capital of the region of Boyaca.
We all got the bus from Bogota, at first it was manic. I think you cannot be shy when travelling around here or even living here because there are no signs or indicators to tell you where you need to go. The buses are pretty small and the streets are manic of people jumping on and off different buses. Then you have people selling food for your journey.
What I have noticed is everyone is very friendly and me being shy it's nice to have polite people instead of rude people answering you back making you wish you didn't ask anything.
One of the many types of buses you take to different cities
Bus and Taxi Station in Tunja
We got the bus and the journey was around 3 hours. It was comfortable although the bus was so packed a man had to sit on a cushion which I found funny, he sat in the middle on the aisle on a cushion. You can tell health and Safety isn't a huge issue here in Colombia. Same thing happened when we got a taxi, we were 5 and there didnt seem to be a problem with the taxi driver in taking us nor the police that saw us when we drove past.
After getting the bus we finally arrived in Tunja. We were picked up and we ate some lunch.
In the evening we went to a 60th dinner party in a hotel. It was very nice and very different to the dinner parties I have attended.
Instead of getting the first dish first or an aperetif, the birthday cake was served with pink Champagne, it was odd for me but this is custom here in Colombia. After the cake there was a live band playing different types of music, like salsa, merengue, and Bayetano. We danced a bit.....well I gave it a try and did my best to dance well.
The evening ended at 3 am and went straight to bed......
Mariachi Group At the Party
Day 4 we went to Villa de Leiva. It is a beautiful village with all white houses, reminded me of Andalucia in Spain, then again they are the colonies so I am assuming they went there.
All the people from the night before went and we visited a friends hotel. It was a lovely place and we had lunch there. The sites here are amazing too, lots of mountains and greenery. All you see are goats, sheep and cows eating grass. It's very different to the daily cosmo life I normally live so it is appreciated.
You see so many people walking along the roads maybe walking from work or going to visit families. It is just like the movies. You see the older people dressed more traditional in ponchos and cowboy style hats, I think I may have to adopt this look.....
