So I have just come back from a 6 day trip in the Amazons. I must say it was the best trip I have ever done. Obviously it is very different to any trip I have done before as this was pure adventure and great for me to use all my cadet skills. We arrived in Leticia from Bogota on a low cost airline called Aires. I was worried that we would be flying in some old school plane but really it was a big boeing plane. The flight was very cheap which we booked online, and it took only 2 hours to get there.
Once we arrived we started to walk towards Leticia, the main city. We were looking for the combi bus to get to our hostel... we walked for a bit and found where to get the bus from and caught this small mini van style bus. It was funny as it was a 7 seater but atleast 12 of us were sitting in it all squashed like sardines. But the experience was fun....We got dropped off and walked towards to the hostel. It was a 3km walk, and luckily it was nice and warm but we were worried we would never find the place. Luckily after 35 minutes of walking we found the place and we felt very welcomed by the owners. The first day as we arrived at 16.00 we couldn't do much as night comes at 18.00 and your are literally next to the jungle and it isn't the place to just wonder off. We just planned our next 5 days with the owner. She was extremely helpful and guided us in what we should do. And we planned ourselves a very packed few days.....
Leticia the main city to ge to the amazons.... Leticia has a population of 27,000 people. It is one of the most safest cities I have visited. There is no crime, no theft and the people are very tranquil. People that drive cars or motorbikes don't pass 20 kph. In the whole of 2009 there had only been 5 murders, 4 being crimes of passion and one being drug related, so you can imagine how safe this place really is...
These are the houses people live in on the way to our hostel....
Very wonderful!!!
ReplyDeleteHehe. Beats London doesnt it
ReplyDeleteFAB! - 4 crimes (of passion) lol. So much killing going on here at the moment that 5 murders in a year sounds nuts.
