Colombia Day 10: Alpine and la Finca

On day 10, a friend invited us to his finca (house in the country....ok more than one of you will be singing some blur there)...
The house was not even an hour from Bogota, and before arriving to the house we went to Alpine, it is like a factory where they make all the desserts, yoghurts, cheeses....basically all dairy products and its a big shop where they sell all these products. It would be the equivalent to Danone in Europe.
It was perfect, unfortunately not for me as I am not a dairy eater, dam I got scared and everything, but I couldnt help indulging in a few items, like cheesecake, a nice yoghurt and juices....

The area is very nice, there was a childrens playground, huge yoghurt pots and cheese packages all over....

Alpine Factory............

After buying a huge stock on goodies for the day we headed towards our friends Finca. It was lovely, we drove a little road and then ended up in this private area, with lots of rasberry bushes and plants. The house was very beautiful, it reminded me of what Heidi's house should look like in the Suiss Alps. It was very 70's and looked like it had been untouched. It was brilliant. Outside there was some strange tree's that I had never seen in my life, it reminded me of the film Avatar. This one tree was nicknamed Barba which means beard in English. It looked magical and felt even stranger, it was like feeling long bits of straw but that felt like felt (the material)....

Magical feeling when you look and feel this tree....

As the weather was wonderful, and the sky was blue with no clouds we walked over to a part where we attempted to fly a kite, well the guys did, I just watched.....

The kite managed to stay up in the sky, more or less and once we got tired of waiting for the wind to pick up we decided to go for a walk in the mini forest. There it was very surreal, the floors were covered in dried up leaves, but the stringy ones, so it was like the whole ground was covered in a blanket, it was fun to go "surfing" down the hills though....

There again we all stopped and chilled on the ground. I don't think I have ever felt so relaxed in my life. It was the first time in a very long long time that my mind was completely blank. It was a great chillaxing moment for us all....

After our 5 minute power nap we ended up having a mini acorn war..... yes we threw acorns at eachother, very mature I know.....

We then headed to the shop, now, when I left to head for the shop I was assuming we were going to a typical store, and how wrong was I. It was typical, but from the movies not what I was used to in real life. It was a tiny little shop with two tables and benches. A couple owned it and it was like the village off license, they sold everything....it is very hard to describe this, hence me adding the photos.....I loved it.....

Once we had our breather and our beers to freshen us up we headed back to home and whilst we Women retired for another nap, we left the men to prepare our BBQ.....

Miguel, the owner of the place is a chef and seasoned the meat for the BBQ.....He is a great chef. He prepared patatas criolla (small potatoe's) in such an easy way but I doubt it would come out that tasty for just anyone, I believe you need that special touch that he has....

He boiled them to the right point he then put butter and seasoned them in salt and pepper.... my goodness just remembering them makes my mouth water......

We all got up and sat around by the fire and cooked different meats and Plantain....The whole dinner turned out lush.... But again we ended up exhausted and cold. Here in Bogota during the day the weather is lovely and warm but at night the temperatures do drop to 0 degrees or even -4 like it did last night.... so once we left to go home it was straight to bed in the warmth......

Spider we found in the house, was massive.....
