This is where my journey begins, sitting in Terminal 1 ready to embark on my adventure to Turkey.
This time i'm flying with a real airline, one where you get turkish delight as a welcome, drinks and even "HOT FOOD". Can you believe that 20 years ago this was the norm and now we are used to be shipped like cattle just so we can have a cheap deal....ok Fair enough, it is sometimes better to go cheap, but the service on this airline was amazing and I really do miss flying in style.
Chicken Satay, kidney beans in olive oil, rice, crackers and cheese, fresh bread, white wine and water! not bad!!
We arrived safely to Istanbul and decided after arriving to our hotel to do a bit of exploring of the area.
We have been staying in Fatih, the Old Istanbul, close to the sea. Its a very nice area and quiet with cobbled, windy streets with beautiful buildings. The buildings in the area seem to be tall and narrow, some looking like swiss chalets made of wood.
We had a wonder close to the port and the streets of Fatih
Along the coast there are several stands, balloons hanging and you have to shoot them and win a prize. This gentleman did very well and won three beers, I don't know if they were alcoholic or not.
The fish market in the middle of loads of restaurants. Everything looked amazing although we weren't in the mood for fish.
One of the millions of cats you see on the streets.
We went for a mixed kebab for dinner. We went to a typical Turkish restaurant and not a tourist trap. It was worth it and very cheap.
