Vegan Mama

“If slaughterhouses had glass walls, the whole world would be vegetarian.”

“Being vegan is easy. Are there social pressures that encourage you to continue to eat, wear, and use animal products? Of course there are. But in a patriarchal, racist, homophobic, and ableist society, there are social pressures to participate and engage in sexism, racism, homophobia, and ableism. At some point, you have to decide who you are and what matters morally to you. And once you decide that you regard victimizing vulnerable nonhumans is not morally acceptable, it is easy to go and stay vegan”

2015 was a year of learning and change for me and many others.

Since June 2015 I decided I wanted to change my way of living. (You can read my blog post Changing my eating habits). I was a habitual drinker and smoker and was eating a lot of junk food. I discovered from watching a lot of documentaries that I had a TOFI body (Thin on the outside, Fat on the inside).
I started to cut out sugar after watching "That Sugar Film" and after watching very educational and eye opening documentaries like "Earthlings", "Cowspiracy" (you can watch on Netflix) and "What the health" I decided to go even further by cutting out anything derived from animals. I've always had a love for animals and after watching so many crazy things I decided I had to change if I really "loved" animals equally.
I decided to become a Vegan! YEAHHHHH. I threw out anything derived from Animals and started my new adventure. However, there was one problem. I didn't study, or look into the world of Veganism. I thought I could convert from one day to the next but It wasn't easy, especially when you live in a country where pork is sold to you everywhere. I was feeling weak, and faint and wasn't getting the right nutrients. I wasn't responsible because I wasn't taking care of what I was eating.

Then I realised we have a wonderful tool called the Internet which has really changed the way we can learn and share knowledge. The  Internet can be wonderful if we use it properly.
I started to follow lot's of vegans on Instagram, getting loads of yummy daily recipe's to choose from and my journey began. I realised that the World is becoming more sensitive to this unethical form of killing animals and I knew I would have more support and now it's my turn to continue sharing knowledge whichever way I can.

What is a Vegan? According to the Official website to Vegan Society  www.vegansociety.com they say:

"From 'junk food vegans' to raw food vegans, and everything in between, there's a version of veganism to suit everyone. Yet one thing we all have in common is a plant-based diet avoiding all animal foods such as meat (including fish, shellfish and insects), dairy, eggs and honey - as well as products like leather and any tested on animals."

I started my journey as a vegan but then in January 2016 I found out I was pregnant and I changed my diet to suit my baby's needs and  I wasn't fully informed on the diet I could have and I wasn't willing to take risks. However, If I were to get pregnant again I think it would be a different story as I have learnt so much since then.

My son was born in September 2016 and once again I decided to change my lifestyle once again and focus on being a vegan and looking after myself as I know it is important to start educating my son from young so that he understands the importance of living a healthy lifestyle mentally and physically. I went back to yoga and cooking and have fallen in love with cooking and trying new dishes.

*Most of the recipe's I post have been adapted to what ingredients I have at home or created based on other dishes.

My main goal is to post all my vegan recipe's so you can try them out and share to whoever and to spread any knowledge to help you find your path. I won't only be posting recipe's for adults but I'll also post babyfood recipe's for any parent that wants to follow a wholesome vegetarian/vegan diet. I am not going to lie, my son still eats meat and some dairy products but not on a daily basis. Until I visit a nutritionist I am not going to make a strict diet for him.

The majority of the recipes are very easy as I'm not a huge fan of spending hours in the kitchen. The idea is to post quick and easy dishes that can be prepared from basic ingredients you can find in most kitchens.

I hope you get to try them out yourself and let me know how they come out!

Here are a few Examples of some of the dishes I've prepared. (Click to go to recipe)

Chia Pudding and Nice-cream Combo

These are not all my own original recipes, but ones I have learned from other vegan bloggers and have adapted for my own use!
