Peaceful Protests in Istanbul

Just before coming out to Turkey I was getting calls on my mobile non-stop. Family and friends were worried about the riots and protests going on in Takism square and all around Turkey.

Obviously when you watch the news you don't think you are being manipulated by the media although that isn't the case. I would rather be ignorant to what was going on, I didn't want to lose money on a trip I had planned, as I am definitely one that isn't made of money. So when the time came I flew into Istanbul, and I can honestly say that I hadn't seen anything as near as violent or chaotic in the city. On Saturday the 15th of June I was supposed to make my way from Istanbul to Karabuk and I finally got to see some action, (I wasn't hoping for violence just to see a bit of protesting, as this is an important part of history in Turkey).

As we left Istanbul we saw hundreds of people chanting and marching down the motorway. Cars were blocking the roads and there was a huge traffic jam for miles on end. It was in no way vioulent or cause fear.
The media twist things up so much and I imagined seeing things on fire, whereas there were people marching in peace trying to make a point. Trying to slow down any commercialism to make a point about their political views.

Unfortunately I am not a professional photographer but I tried to take pictures from the bus, and below is a small example of what there was to be seen.
