If you are in Barcelona this weekend, or an animal lover, be sure to go to the Tres Tombs Festival.
This is a Catholic event celebrated every year in honor of the patron saint of the poor, the sick and animals who is "San Antonio", (Saint Anthony).
The way this saint is honored is by celebrating the annual Tres Tombs Festival which means in Catalan, the Three Walks Festival.
The event is held in different parts of Spain but I will be participating in the event in Barcelona this Saturday the 19th Of January.
The Tres Tombs Festival features a parade that starts from the corner of Calle Calábria and Calle Floridablanca.
The parade winds through the city with colourful carriages pulled by animals, and people throwing sweets for all the people on the streets.
For me this has to be my favourite part. Seeing people smiling. |
The parade pauses at the Escola Pia de Sant Antoni for traditional blessings by the local priest. In keeping with the story of Saint Anthony, the priest blesses the parade animals as well as any pets brought to the church.
Then the parade continues down Rambla Catalunya, Calle Ferran until the carriages reach Plaza de Sant Miquel.
